About Me

      About Me

I hail from from a village called "Monippally" in Kottayam District in Kerala, one of southern states of India. I did schooling at Holy Cross High School Monippaly. I was  interested practical applications of science and technology which give way to participation in Science Exhibition programs when I was in school and won several prizes including Southern India Science Fair and Kerala State Science fair.

Soon after my secondary school education I joined for Technical Higher Secondary Education in Model Technical Higher Secondary School in  1992. Later  I decided to join for the Engineering course  with Electronics as my main subject of study.

Right from my undergraduate studies I was very interested in electronic systems and telecom technologies. I did my engineering from M.N.M Jain Enginerring College in the 1994-98 period and took  Bachelors degree in Electronics and Communication from University of Madras.  I got a chance to do my thesis work in "Hindustan Teleprinters" where I, along with three of my classmates were able to design and test a V21 acoustic modem set which employs FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) modulation, half duplex , asynchronous data transmission with RS-232 interface and with operational speed of 600 bauds by which I got  a fair idea about data communication used between computers using telephone networks.  Later I worked as a Project engineer in Eurostar Technologies, Chennai where I was involved in the testing of Low Noise Boosters used in satellite receiving systems. I did an additional diploma in advanced computing from CDAC Pune which included study system software's and data communication networks. During the course I developed a software system using C and VC++ GUI that can be used as a basic channel security encryption system in a LAN based network. This had also given me an exposure to scientific programming.

After completing my undergraduate studies in Electronics and Communication and DAC I joined  Manjushree Infotech  as a software programmer. But since the technical content of the job was not suiting my interests and also as my interest was always to gain an in depth knowledge in the area of communications ,  I left the job after 2 years to do my M Tech (Master of Technology) in Digital Electronics & Communications.

During my Masters course I learned about the various technologies used in Digital System Design and about DSP processors. I also presented a paper about Security features in GSM technologies during that period.

My thesis work was in the area of high level design of Telecom management Network Agent line card design, Multiprotocol line Card for MPC done at the Centre for Development of Telematics (CDOT), Telecom technology centre of Indian Government. The line card is  capable of connecting to 8 different exchanges at a time and transfer data to the controller card through a HDLC (High-level Data Link Control) interface. An Integrated Multiprotocol Processor (IMP) MC68302 is used for protocol processing and the overall control of the card. Thus the line card takes the HDLC data from the controller card and outputs V.90 data towards exchanges and also collects the V.90 data from the different exchanges and transmits to controller card. The software is made to configure one of the Communication channels of the MC68302 to be in HDLC mode and another in UART mode used for debugging purposes.

Last month (December) I have participated  in a short term course about "Embedded system Design using 8051 Famil of Microcontrollers" in the Continuing Education Department of Indian Institute of Science , Bangalore. During the course duration I got the chance to meet Dr. S Ramgopal, Dept of Instrumentation, IISC Bangalore. I did a Low baud rate DTMF-FM transmitter, receiver as a project after the course which is interface with 8051 microcontrollers in both the sides and can be used for low cost embedded systems where small amount of control data has to be transmitted within a small radius.
